Us kids took care of those three cats - I was home on winter break from school and had the best time helping to feed them and keep them warm. Taraz and Rahmat became proud adoptive parents, and a friend of Taraz took the grey one to her home. The two remaining were Mordred and Pandora. Mordred was my favorite because he would get your attention by bonking you on your forehead.

He would crawl into any friendly lap, and was so affectionate!

Year after year, I would come home from school and he would sleep on my back or on my feet in that upper room.

He once survived a week stuck in the neighbors' basement and only made it because he was smart enough to lick the condensation off of the windows for water.

Mama called him "That Cat" because he left hair, everywhere. But deep down, she adored him. He learned to "knock" on the front door when he wanted in. Which was about 30 times a day...

Well, Rahmat noticed yesterday that Mordred, now 10 years old, was losing weight. He also difficulty climbing up to his favorite spot on the ledge. Mama decided that it was time to take him in to the vet and have him looked at. So, the two of them loaded up sweet Mordred and took him in.

He was soon diagonosed with swelling around his organs - lots of fluid buildup. It is called Feline Peritonitis. Like appenicitis, for cats. He only had 3 weeks to live. Mama asked Rahmat to make the decision. He agreed that putting him down was the most humane thing to do. Mama held it together until she saw tears in Rahmat's eyes. She does not like to see her children suffer.

Rahmat took these last pictures with his camera phone. The last moments of the sweet baby boy that was just the most precious cat that our family EVER HAD.

Mama called me up after she got home, and was teary. Mama is never teary! So I got teary and have not stopped since! I cried and cried. And cried.

I am so homesick right now it physically hurts.

Goodnight sweet baby boy. I hope that there are lots of fishies, furniture for you to scratch up, and angels to cuddle with in kitty heaven! Thank you for giving our family 10 years of your sweetness. (and thank you for killing the crane flies in my room when I was 18). Cuddles and kisses to you.
Love,
Mama Ruhiyyih

I'm so sorry. I hope you will feel better soon. It hurts to lose a friend.Much love to you.
Snif. Oh it is hard to process all of this, so sudden, so unexpected. I held him yesterday morning and gave him a can of special cat food in the morning to perk his appetite. But he barely ate. He could hardly jump up onto his spot by the window or climb the stairs.
I still have his blanket on the sofa, with the dent left in the center where he slept. I think Pandora knew something was wrong with him, as both of them were together there last Sunday morning. I called George's attention to it, as they usually find separate places to bed down.
I'll be taking Pandora in today to be checked for feline peritonitis, and she'll get a shot (one every year after this.) She has followed me around today, looking up at me as if to say "where's my brother". He is in a pet cemetary up in Auburn.
Sniffle sniffle...
that was beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time.
What a sweet way to remember him!~
Hugs!~

I'm sorry to hear about your family kitty. I know he had a good life with all of you.
I am vey sorry for your loss. I can't imagine how hard this was for your family.
You know, I haven't blogged about it because I haven't known quite what to say but we decided to put our very old dog, Lily (15 yrs.) down last week when my in laws were here. She had declined so much in the last year and her quality of life was very low. I'm still unsettled about making such a huge choice for another living thing, though.
Bob, his father and I were all there when she passed away and at least I can say it really is very quick and peaceful for the animals.
I am so very sorry about your family's loss of a dear pet. I know how hard it is to deal with.
I couldnt hold back my tears..such a sweet cat..I am so so sorry for your loss...I am sure he is in kitty heaven...may he RIP.
